Rasht
Rasht, the vibrant capital of Iran’s Gilan province and my ancestral home, welcomed me with its lush greenery, rich culture, and unique culinary delights. Known as the “City of Rain,” Rasht’s moist, temperate climate breathes life into its dense forests and rice paddies, creating a landscape refreshingly distinct from other parts of Iran. The bustling Shahrdari Square, with its European-style clock tower and lively atmosphere, serves as the heart of the city, where locals and visitors gather to embrace the city’s dynamic energy. Rasht’s renowned cuisine, celebrated as part of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network for gastronomy, was an absolute highlight; dishes like Mirza Ghasemi and Baghala Ghatogh introduced me to the rich flavors of Gilan’s culinary heritage. Wandering through the Rasht Grand Bazaar, I experienced the warmth and friendliness of the Gilaki people, making my visit to Rasht an unforgettable journey into a region where nature, culture, and tradition blend seamlessly.
