Gorgan
In April 2024, I traveled by bus from Sari to Gorgan. Visiting Gorgan, the capital of Golestan province in northern Iran, offers an enchanting experience brimming with natural beauty, rich history, and cultural diversity. Nestled between the Alborz Mountains and the Caspian Sea, Gorgan is famed for its lush forests, particularly the breathtaking Naharkhoran Forest, perfect for hiking and picnicking. The city boasts fascinating historical sites like the Gorgan Wall (also known as the Red Snake), an ancient defensive structure rivaling the Great Wall of China in length, and the Jameh Mosque of Gorgan, which showcases exquisite Islamic architecture. The vibrant local bazaar offers an opportunity to sample traditional cuisine and shop for unique regional handicrafts. With its blend of scenic landscapes, historical treasures, and welcoming atmosphere, Gorgan is a captivating destination for travelers exploring the beauty and culture of northern Iran.
