Azerbaijan
In June 2018, I traveled to Azerbaijan, a nation nestled in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. It shares its northern border with Russia, its northwest frontier with Georgia, its western edge with Armenia, and its southern boundary with Iran. Home to nearly 10 million residents, the vibrant capital city of Baku stands as its cultural and political hub.
Baku boasts a rich history and is renowned for its stunning architecture, cultural landmarks, and thriving oil industry. In recent years, Baku has experienced rapid development, transforming into a popular destination for tourists worldwide.
A standout landmark in Baku is the Maiden Tower, a 12th-century edifice nestled in the Old City. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it stands as a symbol of the city. Equally impressive is the Heydar Aliyev Center, a contemporary architectural marvel featuring museums, exhibition spaces, and concert halls.
Beyond its cultural and historical landmarks, Baku boasts a lively nightlife and a diverse culinary scene. Renowned for its delectable cuisine, featuring dishes like plov, dolma, and kebab, the city also offers an array of cafes, bars, and nightclubs, making it a favored spot for nightlife enthusiasts.
